2006 Grade 10 Citizenship Awards Dinner

By Evelyn Daley, Chairperson

The 2006 Grade 10 Citizenship Awards reception took place on Wednesday May 31, 2006 at Thames Secondary School and it was a wonderful evening. These students, nominated by their teachers for outstanding citizenship and contributions to their school community in the school year 2005-2006, received awards sponsored by District 11 OSSTF. Greetings and congratulations were brought on behalf of the senior administration of the board by Executive Superintendent Mike Sereda, on behalf of the trustees by Joyce Bennett, and on behalf of District 11 OSSTF by President Wendy Anes Hirschegger.

Thank you to all of you for your support of this award–from choosing your award recipient, to providing us with the scripts and, for those who were able to attend, your presence at the event. It was much appreciated by the award recipients and their families as well as by the Principals or their designates who were able to attend. There were shy smiles from the award recipient and huge smiles from their families as each script was read. The staff and students of Thames did a fabulous job of setting up the room, creating table centrepieces, and preparing the refreshments and dinner.

The photograph above shows the whole group of award winners. Copies are being printed and sent to the individual students. In addition, the award winners received  a certificate, a 2006 collector coin set, letters of congratulations from the District and the Thames Valley District School Board, and a copy of the script read about their contributions to their school community.

Nominations for the 2007 Grade 10 Citizenship Awards will take place in spring 2007 with the reception tentatively scheduled for May 30, 2007.
