Teacher Timetables

Articles 21.2 to 21.4 address the fundamental requirements of teacher timetables.
21.2 Effective September 1, 2005, all full-time teachers will be assigned for 6 periods, and for Additional
Professional Assignments as specified in Article 20 “Additional Professional Assignments”.
21.3 A part-time Teacher’s workload shall be pro-rated to that of the Teachers set forth in Article 21.2.
21.4 All Teacher workload issues shall be discussed at the In-School Staffing Committee in accordance
with Article 30. If unresolved, the matter shall be referred to the Secondary Staffing Committee for
resolution.

Other Factors Considered in Teacher Timetables

The following factors are considered when developing a teacher’s timetable.

bulletteaching qualifications
bulletneeds of the department and school
bulletnumber of different courses taught (attempt to minimize)
bullettotal student contacts for a teacher (See also the handout entitled "Current Class Size Language")
bulletteacher preferences
bulletconsecutive assigned minutes.

NOTE: Seniority is not normally a consideration in timetabling. It does not give a teacher the "right" to courses or sections in a particular department.

Split Between Semesters

A full time teacher should normally have 3 lines in one semester and 3 lines in the other. Requests for exceptions are to be presented to and approved by the Secondary Staffing Committee. A teacher cannot be required to teach any split other than 3/3.
