Getting a Job Certification OSSTF Award Welcome class of 2006-2007!

As intermediate/senior and technological studies Teacher-Candidates, you are Associate Members of OSSTF. Once you get a job in a public secondary school, by law, you will be statutory members of OSSTF; in other words, we will be YOUR UNION. Click here for an explanation of the organizational structure of OSSTF, what services OSSTF provides, and how OSSTF benefits its members.

The District 11-Thames Valley OSSTF Liaisons to the Faculty of Education at the University of Western Ontario are Federation Services Officer Mary Lou Cunningham, District Vice-President Robert Steidl, and District Councillor Peter Bates. Mary Lou can be contacted at the District Office (519-659-6588). Robert is a teacher at Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute (519-485-1200). Peter is a teacher at Clarke Road Secondary School (519-452-2640).

This section of the OSSTF District 11 website is meant to raise awareness about the OSSTF among Teacher Candidates and to give you information regarding the dates when you can meet district and provincial staff. 

bulletOSSTF Information Kits are available from the District Office.   The kit provide information about what it means to be a union member, what services are provided by OSSTF to its members, and what your rights and responsibilities will be.
bulletThe "Getting a Job" page provides resources about résumés, cover letters, interviews, job fairs and professional portfolios. There are also links to places where teaching jobs are posted.
bulletThe Althouse Job Fairs on January 12 and 19, 2007. We will have a table set up with samples of OSSTF Resource Books and other materials that can be purchased through the Federation Store online.
bulletThe "Certification" page provides information about OSSTF Certification Rating Statements which directly determine, along with "years of experience", how much money you will start out making when you get a job in a public secondary school.
bulletThe OSSTF Certification Workshop will take place on Friday January 26, 2007.  Application forms for a Letter of Appraisal will be distributed directly and individually to Teacher Candidates at the January 26 presentation. Photocopies of the application form are not accepted; only the original form in the proper colour with the embossed seal from the actual package will be accepted. In other  words, you MUST attend the session to get the form. Extra forms will not be given to others to give to those who don't attend. The Certification Department must receive your application for a Letter of Appraisal and all documents (transcripts and/or trade certificates) by April 13, 2007 in order for your application to be processed. Mail them to 60 Mobile Drive, Toronto, ON, M4A 2P3.
bulletThe "OSSTF Award" page provides information about the OSSTF award presented to one graduating Teacher Candidate at every Ontario Faculty of Education with IS and Tech programs.
