Additional information on Soneil 1212SR charger
- This charger can get quite hot when on continuously
(45 minutes or more), so please ensure that charger case temperature
is safe for your application. Do not use in an application where
impaired people without temperature sense, or children might handle
the charger. In a room temperature of 25 C (77 F), the top of the
case can get up to 124 F (51.2 C) or more. This can cause a 3rd
degree burn on adult skin in 1 minute, or a 1st degree burn (less
severe) in far less than 1 minute. Please ensure adequate ventilation
of charger.
- This charger is adjustable by a trained technician.
Should you experience venting of your battery (gassing), the pulse
cut off Voltage can be lowered. Current can be lowered as low as
3.25 Amps to suit smaller batteries, or to slightly reduce heat
of charger.
- The Soneil supplied PDF
brochure is incorrect regarding the green light. When the constant
current bulk charge (stage 2) orange light goes out & the green
light comes on, it does not indicate that charging is complete,
it indicates that the charger has switched from the constant current
bulk charge (stage 2), to the current reduction by pulsation (stage
3) which tops up the battery more slowly & safely. If you desire
a full charge, leave the charger connected to the battery for at
least an hour after the green light comes on, or until you see a
slow flicker of the green light.
- The 3 stage charging diagram in the Soneil supplied PDF
brochure doesn't adequately describe stage 3. Stage 3 pulsing
actually has the net effect of gradually reducing the current to
near zero over time (often about an hour), where it then visually
pulses on briefly. This is better than described in the brochure diagram,
because the tapered current of stage 3 helps top up the battery
quickly without over charging the battery. Stage 3 eventually just
merges into a trickle float pulse level, which is almost like a
4 stage charger.
