From Newfoundland - "Possibly the finest interpreter of traditional songs in the country" .

Since bursting on to the trad scene in 2010 with his debut recording, Ballads, Matthew has swiftly earned his place as one of Canada’s most authentic and vital traditional voices. In that time, Matthew’s music has traveled well beyond the rugged shores of his homeland. His role as singer and song-finder in The Dardanelles has brought him to many major international festival stages. His live performance offers tasteful and honest interpretations of folk songs delivered with polished guitar work and powerful vocals. His repertoire transcends time and place with traditional songs from both sides of the Atlantic.

Award-winning western Canada songwriter, with the voice of an angel.

A talented multi-instrumentalist, Lizzy toured for ten years as a side musician before pursuing her own projects. She has been praised for her mastery of the fiddle, guitar and harp. CBC’s Chris Della Torre calls her “a musician’s musician” and notes “fans that want their artists to play well can find that with [her]”. Her voice has been described as “otherworldly”, “angelic", “sweet”, and “pure” and as a singer, she has been recognized for her clarity and precision. Lizzy is a full-time musician who travels and tours throughout Canada during the year with her trio.

Amazing songwriter and entertainer returns!

Songwriter, guitarist, painter, fiddler, slide player, eco-village member and believer in all things possible. Named 2016 Folk Alliance International Artist-in- Residence and signed to Tamulevich Artist Management along with John Gorka and Peter Yarrow. His songs are being made into films. He’ll surprise you and awaken the cynics. He’s plumbing for lyrical gold like a social archeologist. His songs are universal, his rhythm infectious and in concert, he is funny as hell one moment and transcendent the next.

Two of Nova Scotia's favourite sons bring their new album to Folk Night

J.P. Cormier and Dave Gunning, both individually celebrated and critically acclaimed, have just finished a new recording and will be bringing it to Folk Night! These two comrades have been playing and writing together for over 20 years including two cross Canada tours in the late 90’s when Dave was J.P.’s bass player and the 2002 Stompin’ Tom Connors tour. Over the more recent years they’ve been known to show up at one another’s shows and to share their stages together and on days off at home in Pictou County are often seen hanging out together. They have a vocal blend and ability to play the guitar together that very much parallels their brotherly bond and somehow the sum becomes greater than the parts. After all the miles and twists and turns on the road one thing is for certain: their love of travelling together and singing and playing together. We welcome Dave back again, and look forward to introducing JP to Folk Night audiences!
