The Thames Valley District School Board is proud to announce that it
has surpassed its fundraising target of $255,000 for the 2005 United Way
Campaign. Across the Valley, schools, students, and staff raised a total
of $266,976 to support the United Way Campaigns in Oxford, Elgin-St.
Thomas, and London-Middlesex.
“Thames Valley’s staff, students, and stakeholders have demonstrated
again that ours is a Caring, Learning Community,” said Director of
Education Bill Bryce. “I want to thank and congratulate everyone
involved in this year’s campaign for their hard work and commitment.
This is truly a worthy cause, and I am proud to know that Thames
Valley’s people are committed to helping
others in the community.”
Last October, Thames Valley schools and offices participated in many
events to raise money and awareness for the United Way, including the
annual United Way Stair Climb at One London Place, talent shows, staff
donation programs, and United Way football games. This year’s donation
brings Thames Valley’s total United Way contribution to approximately
$1.5-million since 1998.
2005 was a banner year for fundraising across the system. Throughout
the year, the Board raised close to a million dollars in support of
Tsunami Relief, Terry Fox National School Run Day, and the United Way
Campaign.
“Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders,” Director Bryce said.
“Fundraising events like these teach them compassion, empathy, and
respect. They also teach them how to take action in support of those in
need at home and around the world.”
