"Help Wanted" by UWO Faculty of Education

by Wendy Anes Hirschegger, Teachers' Bargaining Unit President

Each year, the Faculty of Education receives over five thousand applications for admission into its programs for the following school year. Offers of admission are sent to about half and ultimately approximately 850 or so are enrolled. Part of the admissions process to decide which applicants will receive offers of admission is the consideration of the "Experience Profile" which each applicant submits.

High school teachers are needed to volunteer to read through and evaluate the Experience Profiles of Intermediate/Senior applicants. Teachers will work in small groups in their subject area to make recommendations to the Faculty as to good prospective students for next year. Providing your professional advice in this way is of tremendous help to the Faculty of Education, but it is also a very interesting exercise and one that you could include in your own professional portfolio, if you have put one together.

The Profile Reading will take place at the Faculty of Education, UWO on Monday February 27, 2006:
bullet4:30 Check-in
bullet5:00 - 6:00 Complimentary Dinner
bullet6:00 - about 8:30 Orientation and Profile Reading

If you are interested in being a Profile Reader, please contact Stephanie MacLeod by fax (850-2377) or email and give her your name, school, subject area, school phone and school fax.
