District Winners of the 2006 Marion Drysdale Contest |
Fourteen schools participated in this year’s Marion Drysdale Awards
contest. Students were invited to explore the theme, Thinking Globally,
through prose/poetry, graphic/video/audio, or visual art. Students were
encouraged to consider political, economic, environmental, health and social
justice issues or reflect upon unity, harmony, equity and awareness. They
were told that Thinking Globally could include mistakes of the past, tragedy
and beauty of today, and hopes or fears for the future.
A total of thirty entries were judged on November 29 at the District Office
by a panel of judges from across the valley. A huge thank you to judges
Wendy Anes Hirschegger, Colleen Canon, Don Edgar, Barb O’Brien, Donna Knight
and Leanne Borho.
School level winners each receive a school winner certificate and a
medallion. District level winners will also receive a District winner
certificate and an engraved trophy. District level winning entries were
forwarded to the Provincial Office and will be judged at the regional level
in January with Provincial level judging will occurring shortly thereafter.
Provincial level winners will be awarded a cheque for $300 and will be
honoured at the Annual Meeting of the Provincial Assembly in Niagara Falls
in March 2006.
District 11 congratulates the following students and their teachers and wish
them the best of luck in the next level of the contest!
