On Saturday, May 7 , the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) organized a "Day of Greeting" at the Wal- Mart stores in approximately 43 cities across Canada. The purpose of this Day of Greeting was to help raise awareness among Wal-Mart shoppers regarding Wal-Mart’s business practices in dealing with their employees and communities and to support UFCW members in Jonquière who lost their jobs after the Wal-Mart store there closed. Those participating in the Day of Greeting will be handing out specially designed “Mal*Wart” coupons to shoppers.

OSSTF strongly supports the right of workers to unionize and bargain collectively, receive fair wages and enjoy good working conditions. The campaign to unionize Wal-Mart workers has faced enormous hurdles and May 7 was an important opportunity for us to join other labour and the community groups to alert the public about Wal-Mart’s activities.

Let us not take thought for our separate interests, but let us help one another.
