OSSTF is proud to sponsor Kids Help Phone (KHP) as our major charity. As Canada’s only phone and web counseling and information service for children and youth, KHP provides direct assistance to hundreds of young people dealing with issues such as depression and suicide, violence and abuse, sexual health, personal relationships, drugs and loneliness. KHP now also offers support for parents wanting to develop better parenting and coping skills.

The services provided by KHP are literally a lifeline for many young people and the role it plays has become even more significant with the cutbacks that have taken place in healthcare, social services and public education. Approximately one-third of the calls received each day are from children requiring immediate and in-depth help and KHP is able to connect these young people directly to the support and counseling they need.

KHP relies entirely on donations and its largest fundraising event is the annual Bell Walk for Kids Help Phone. This event alone raises approximately $700,000 for KHP services in Ontario. This year the event will take place on Sunday, May 1 with walks planned for 12 Ontario communities: Hamilton, Kingston, London, Mississauga, Niagara, Oshawa, Ottawa, Quinte (Belleville), Sarnia, Thunder Bay, Toronto and Windsor.

OSSTF encourages members to continue our tradition of generous support for KHP by becoming involved in this year’s Bell Walk for Kids Help Phone. More information on how to sign up as a sponsor, or to register as one of the walkers, is available through the KHP website.
