The 2003 Grade 10 Citizenship Awards reception took place on Thursday November 6, 2003 at Thames Secondary School and it was a wonderful evening. Twenty-four students nominated by their teachers for outstanding citizenship and contributions to their school community in the school year 2002-2003 received awards sponsored by District 11 OSSTF. In anticipation of a June provincial election, the awards reception had been deferred to this fall.

Thank you to all of you for your support of this award–from choosing your award recipient, to providing us with the scripts and, for those who were able to attend, your presence at the event. It was much appreciated by the award recipients and their families. President Don Rowdon said that from his vantage point on the stage, there were shy smiles from the award recipient and huge smiles from their families as each script was read. The staff and students of Thames did a fabulous job of setting up the room, making corsages, boutonières and table centrepieces, and preparing the refreshments.

The photograph above shows the whole group of award winners. The individual photographs also all turned out beautifully. Each was printed and sent to the individual students. In addition, the award winners received  a certificate, a 2003 collector coin set, letters of congratulations from the District and the Thames Valley District School Board, and a copy of the script read about their contributions to their school community.

Nominations for the 2004 Grade 10 Citizenship Awards will take place in May 2004 with the reception scheduled for June.

Let us not take thought for our separate interests, but let us help one another.
