Jim Wiens, a teacher from Parkside Collegiate Institute, decided late last spring to commit himself and his family to a second year-long overseas experience. Since September, Jim and his family have been living in Papua New Guinea where Jim teaches and his wife Sandra works alongside national nurses to dispense immunizations and provide medicines for babies. Jim has sent these photos depicting the cultural landscape of PNG, and his family’s involvement in it. Jim also recounts stories of political instability, high crime rates, and life with cockroaches! Parkside staff, led by Linda Laney, have put together a care package for Jim and his family to enjoy. Items requested included camera film, a sweatshirt (Jim’s was stolen), a crochet hook, pens, erasers, gum, and airmail stickers!
