Maureen
Routhier, Mathematics Department Head at Parkside Collegiate Institute,
was the recipient of the prestigious Descartes Medal this summer at
the University of Waterloo. Receipt
of this award means that Maureen has been recognized by the René
Descartes Society as someone who has not only “established a record of
excellence in teaching”, but who has “made major contributions in
mathematics beyond the classroom”.
Maureen now has the honour of being a life-long member of the
Descartes Society. PCI
staff are all incredibly proud of Maureen and her achievement.
Dianne Thomson, principal of PCI, wrote it best:
“Maureen …is convinced that all students can learn Math and
expects the same conviction from…all of her students.
And she gets it…. But
the secret behind all of this is is that not only is she a great mathematician,
she is a gifted teacher.” Congratulations, Maureen!
