Don Edgar, "a man who has dedicated
his entire personal and professional life to the service of people with an
intellectual disability", was honoured with a Community Living
London Life Membership award at the Annual General Meeting held on
Thursday, June 19th.
In addition to a twenty-eight year career teaching students with an intellectual disability, Don also mentored developmental education students attending the University of Western Ontario. He was a member of the Curriculum Writing Team for the London Board of Education and an instructor at Althouse College and Fanshawe College (Developmental Service Worker program). In his "spare time", Don was a member of the Special Education Advisory Committee for the Middlesex Board of Education. Don's affiliation with Community Living London began in 1979 and, over the years, he either served on or chaired virtually every committee. Don served two terms on the Board of Directors: 1981-1991 and 1995-1999. He was President from 1987 to 1989. Don has been recognized by his peers in the educational field and received the National Hilroy Fellowship Award for innovations in special education and was nominated for the Ontario Trustees Council Award for Outstanding Ontario Teacher. Congratulations, Don!
