Sulu came from Hathaways' High Reaches (HR)
farm, where we first learned how to sheepherd. I
think she was a reincarnation in body and
personality of her mommy Skye, who made me
fall in love with Tervs the first time I met her.
Sulu has been another teacher for me - about work ethic, intensity, drive, and trust; she's my
girl soulmate - a perfectionist, obsessive, always thinks she's right, kind of like me…I learned
about competitive obedience with her first. She is most definitely the brains in the house
and always wants to be working and doing something with you. When she came home to us,
she endeared herself to Spock, took charge of him and never looked back.
She earned advanced herding titles in 3
countries, & earned her HSBs in Aussie with HITs
each trial. We're working on HIBs in the US; she's
got one leg. People always watch in awe when she
goes out on that big, wide outrun; she loves the
space. In 2010 Sulu finished her CKC Herding Ch
to be the 1st Dual Champion Belgian in Canada!
She's our main chore dog due to her ability to
fetch sheep out of the big open pasture or to sort
sheep in tight spaces. She has an impressive
presence on sheep & a keen ability to read stock;
she finished her Adv Stockdog title up here easily
in 3 straight trials. We've now tried cattle - she
earned her HIAc in May 2011, one leg an RHIT, &
a Combined Score HIT w/her cow & duck runs! In
2012, she earned her adv A-cattle title (one of
only a few BSDs to do this!), and her ASCA Open
Cattle. She has a leg of Adv ASCA cattle.
In the winter months we do obedience to keep warm.
She finished her CD easily in 3 consecutive trials in
Novice A, with three 2nd placements. In February 2011
we tried CDX, and she made me proud, with her first 2
legs in Open A being 1st place runs too! Once we finish
that, then, tracking!
Sulu is a nice moderate bitch. She is square with a nice
front and lovely movement - she single-tracks with ease
and to watch her move on an outrun in the sheep field
is a beautiful thing to behold! She covers a lot of ground
and she could move all day at this pace. She carries a lot
of coat (like her mommy) despite having lived in Aussie
for 4 years.
