"Spock"
Daimler Dangerous Enterprise HS [Am HICs HIAs HSAd] [Aust HXAs HSAd]
3/11/1998 - 3/14/2011
Our "Spockie" was not only our first Belgian
Shepherd, but he was our first dog EVER (yes I
waited about 35 years for one). He taught us a lot of
what we know about dogs. He was a challenge - a
very independent-minded dog at times, though also
very attached to his people. We learned the basics of
sheepherding with him, and Steve and Spock made
history in Australia by becoming the first dog to
achieve an HXAs title in the ANKC's herding
program. Yes, he did it before BCs did!! It was not
until he turned 9 years old that I decided to try
C-course/tending style, and discovered what a
natural he was when tending 20+ head of sheep! He
always had tremendous power and presence on
sheep and we needed to learn what it was meant for
- tending a flock and not working 3-5 head. At age
10 he finished his HSCs title in TX and at 11, his
HICs title, even taking RHIT on the last run. He
retired from competition after that, but Spock had
so much enthusiasm and energy on sheep that he
continued to help us around the farm with chores,
and kept our sheep in good condition with
occasional walks around the pasture. I miss you
terribly my old friend. I have your red ball and I will
keep it until we meet again.
Job well-done!
