What can I say about my wonderful boy Arrow? He is my personal therapy dog! Thank you Lynda Trotter of Belgenbeau Belgian Shepherds in Australia for entrusting us with this happy, gentle-natured dog. Arrow has an infectious temperament that causes people and other dogs to fall in love with him. He must be the happiest, most unassuming Belgian there is. He has never met a person or animal he didn't like or that didn't like him. He's an extrovert - friendly, outgoing, afraid of nothing and curious about everything and everybody. He has a way of "convincing" the sheep that they can trust him and he puts them at ease, yet reads his stock with an amazing aptitude that I only wish I could take credit for (I think he speaks to them politely)! He is calm and doesn't get rattled on sheep; he knows he's in control of them. He has been a joy to train on stock; he loves to herd ducks as much as sheep, which has been a lot of fun for me. I have recently discovered what a natural cow dog he is too.
He is adored by the aging residents at the local nursing home too, where he visits every week. I think this temperament comes from his daddy, Bergerac Faust, "Fax," who was imported from Hungary to Australia and who seemed to throw this temperament to his progeny. Arrow has followed suit, and the puppies he has sired so far have inherited this lovely attitude as wel as his looks. 3 of them are Can Chs! Watch for them in the future!
Arrow is to me what a Belgian should be: pretty to look at, eager to work, with plenty of drive and enthusiasm for the task at hand, and with a sense of humor about it all. He finished his Aust Ch & his HSAsd before moving to Canada, where he is also a Can Ch. He finished his CD with placements. He finished his Novice Agility title at the Natl Spec in Quebec in August 2011, making that 3 1st places! We hope to tinker in tracking in the future as well. But our passion is herding - here in Canada, Arrow made his mark in CKC herding: in summer 2011 he finished his Herding Ch & HX titles w/HIT & RHIT runs, becoming the 1st BSD Groen Can Dual Ch. Way to go!! In the US, he finished his HXA sheep & duck titles, his HXBd, his started A cattle with some tough cows in CT, and now has a leg of HIActhat he earned in a snowstorm! He finished his AKC & AHBA Herding Chs in 2013 so he's my triple Ch! He's also finished ASCA adv sheep & ducks, and open cattle. Almost a WTCH!
Arrow is the product of the last intervarietal (Terv-Groen) breeding done in Australia. He is at the top of the height standard for a Belgian Sheepdog, but balanced, nice and square, with a lovely amount of type, abundant coat, a solid and powerful front and nice side-gait. His biggest fault in my opinion is his movement from behind, where he is a bit close, though it is sometimes hard to see with that long, thick tail of his. He is now neutered.
After taking RHIT from the HIAd class and RHIT from the HXAs class at the BSCA National Specialty in April 2009, Arrow went on to win High-Combined Belgian at the CKC arena trials at the BSDCC National Specialty, June 2009, pictured above with judges Heather Forbes and Judy Vanderford.
