About the Art Walk

The Frederick Art Walk begins in the vicinity of Frederick and Chestnut Streets. All homes on the tour are in the Central Frederick Neighbourhood, bounded on the north and south by Victoria and Krug Streets, and on the east and west by East Avenue and Lancaster Street.

The Art Walk features an amazing array of hand-crafted works for sale, including fabric art, paintings, chocolate, photography, pottery, stained glass, sewing crafts, and jewellery.  We also have rewards for "Art Walkers" via our Passport Program, and each year we encourage donations to a selected charity, most recently Suddaby Public School's efforts to help needy students.

Our History

The Frederick Art Walk had its humble beginning in Lori Cole's annual pottery sale, hosted at 111 Chestnut St. since 1994. In 2000, Filbert St. neighbour Wendy Newbery suggested that we expand the event, posting directions to other artists’ homes at Lori’s house so that pottery sale attendees could go there afterwards. The next year the Frederick Art Walk was born.

Originally called the Central Frederick Artisan’s Craft Tour and Sale, the Art Walk debuted on November 10, 2001. We organized the houses on the tour, finding artists by word-of-mouth, made a small brochure and map describing the homes and artists, made lawn signs covered in plastic wrap. The black and white brochures were delivered by hand to about 300 houses in the neighbourhood.

The 2001 artist tour had 10 artists at 8 houses. Recent Art Walks have had over 70 artisans at 28 houses, including 3 artists who were on the very first Walk.
