Here is what OPHEA wrote about Wes on their website:

Wes McConnell has contributed to the physical health and well-being of children and youth as a teacher, coach, athletic coordinator, camp director, and consultant. He began his career in the physical and health education sector in 1984 when he was employed by the London Board of Education (now TVDSB). His roles there included teacher, athletic coordinator, H&PE department head, and consultant. From 1987-1991 Wes was seconded to TVO as an education officer in health and education. The scope of his career has been extensive, including writing for TV Ontario’s Education About Aids project, advising Ophea’s H&PE curriculum writing team, writing for the Ontario Physical and Health Education Safety Guidelines, and contributing to the sexual health curriculum.

Over the years, Wes has also devoted a great deal of his personal time to improving the health and wellness of children and youth. His volunteer service with Ophea spans more than 15 years, including his role as co-president of the Board of Directors in 1992 and his role as president in 2001/2002. In addition, Wes served as a founding director of The Foundation for Active Healthy Kids (now Active Healthy Kids Canada) from 1996-2001.

Wes McConnell is a sought-out speaker, advisor, consultant and expert in physical and health education. Wes has admirably represented the profession for 20 years and has undoubtedly earned his reputation as a respected leader, through his contributions to the advancement of active, healthy living opportunities for children and youth.
