These are the remains of one of several sod huts found at the mouth of Salmon Creek, near
Pond Inlet. These particular huts date back to the time of the Thule, predecessors of the modern Inuit, almost
1000 years ago. There are still Inuit alive today who lived in sod huts, even in the second half of the 20th century. The more
well known igloo was generally only used as a hunting and camping shelter (although they may have been used for several
months at a time.)
