Ice and saltwater slush puddles form at the shore of Eclipse Sound near Pond Inlet in late October. The sea ice is mostly solid, but daily tides allow cracks to form near shore, which in turn let water out onto the surface. Depending on the time of day, and the month, you might need to snowmobile through this slush to get back to town.
