Urquhart Castle, a Clan Grant castle, last abandoned in 1692 when it was destroyed by Williamite troops, in order to prevent it falling into the hands of the Jacobites. The castle was under the ownership and care of Clan Grant from 1509 until 1912, when it passed to the care of the office of His Majesty's Works and Public Buildings.
