Hydrogen
In the early 1970's I realized that the time would come when it
was feasible, economical & politically correct (because of the
environment & too much dependence on foreign oil), to start
switching our economy over from hydrocarbon based fuels, to Hydrogen
for powering our cars, trucks & buses. That transition time
is about to start happening & in fact is already well under
way. Hydrogen is pollution free, whether burned in an internal combustion
engine, or used as the consumable in a fuel cell battery to power
an electric motor. If Hydrogen is created in large quantities using
renewable resources such as wind power to power electrolysis, or
microbacteria biomass to create Hydrogen, then we'll be on our way
to cleaning up the environment & reducing greenhouse gases that
are changing our global weather patterns. As an added bonus, creating
& burning Hydrogen can reduce our many country's dependence
on foreign oil & the issues that go along with that, including
wars because of national security over oil. Hydrogen when stored
in a hydride tank is far safer than gasoline. The technology is
already here & fairly refined, we only lack infrastructure (places
to manufacture, store & fill the tank with hydrogen) & the
political will to move this great idea forward. I'll be expanding
this area with plenty of details about Hydrogen, links to other
sites regarding Hydrogen & which car manufactures are selling
Hydrogen cars now. Besides storing hydrogen at room temperature
in a hydride, hydrogen can also be stored in a liquid state in a
cryogenic container (refrigerated at -253 C), or in a high pressure
container at room temperature (too heavy for mobile applications)
in a gaseous state in pressurized cylinders (much like propane).
