What is Respite?
Respite provides supports and relief to caregivers and also provides an opportunity for the individual to
experience alternate living environments while remaining in their home. Respite Services is provided within WDDS’ existing barrier free Accommodation Service.
· Respite strengthens the ability of families and primary caregivers to continue to provide care in the home.
· Respite is most successful when it provides the person accessing respite a positive experience.
· WDDS provides qualified and experienced staff to ensure the best possible care and safety of
participants and peace of mind for the family and caregiver.
· Maintains the primary caregiving relationship.
Eligibility?
Respite Services will be provided for persons with a developmental disability over the age of 18 years and a resident of Oxford County. Provision of respite services will be at the sole discretion of WDDS.
Referral and application
New referrals must be received by WDDS at least sixty (60) days prior to any respite being offered. An intake procedure must be completed prior to offering respite services. Interviews or visits will be completed prior to approval to the program. This will assist with determining the amount of staffing required and best location for service. Respite will only be provided for dates for which WDDS has provided written confirmation. Thirty-six (36) days per year (April-March) may be prebooked, after the intake procedure is complete. Additional days may be booked if space is available at the discretion of the Respite Coordinator.
Preference will be given to individuals who have not scheduled 36 days.
Fees
WDDS Respite Services is a non-government funded program. The daily respite fee will be $25 per person. If additional days beyond the maximum are provided they will be charged at a daily rate of $35.00. This will be reviewed annually by the Finance Committee. All invoices must be paid prior to the next respite visit. If financial assistance is required, approval must be obtained from the Executive Director prior to acceptance.
Respite Services is an important service that WDDS offers. But respite doesn’t only benefit
families and caregivers. It can also benefit the person accessing respite.
