The Temple Mount is a part of Jerusalem that is going to be in the news constantly in the years to come, far more than now. Bible Prophecy clearly states that tumultuous events are set to occur there, followed by The Return of Jesus Christ on the nearby hill - the Mount of Olives.

The Western Wall, also known as the Wailing Wall, of the Temple Mount is all that remains of the ancient Temples, the first that existed from the time of King Solomon (destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 B.C. - see Why Babylon?), and the second just after the time of Jesus Christ (destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D.). Captured during the 1967 Six Day War, the wall is presently the closest that religious Jews get to pray at what was once the most holy site of the Israelites. The Temple Mount is today controlled by Muslims.
The Temple Mount is now perhaps best known from the sight of the gold-topped Muslim Dome Of The Rock that sits upon it. The Bible strongly implies that a Third Temple, or Holy Place (apart from the Christian meaning and application of the word Temple), will be built by the Jewish people in the end-times (see The Abomination of Desolation), perhaps as the result of the discovery of a very sacred object (see Temple Mount Treasures).
