New Look, New Feel:
Welcome to the newly redesigned web site of the St. Thomas Evangelical Library! The new version introduces the Desert Island Books feature, in which a series of "castaways" are escorted to a deserted island where they are asked to choose only five books to take with them before their departure. Find out which books our castaways have chosen, and why.

Other new features include downloadable versions of our booklist and an expanded biography section.

Just added, our "Best Books" section highlights some of the best books in print in categories such as commentaries and church history. The former "Book Reviews" section has been added to the list of best books.

Update - August 24 and 30, 2001:
Added to the "Best Books" section is an account of the influence of Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, along with a series of reviews of his works (Sermons on the books of Romans, Ephesians, and II Peter, and the Sermon on the Mount. and a light unto my path."

Concerning Religious Books:
I believe if truth be not spread, error will, and if God and His Word are not known and received, the devil and his words will. If books of truth do not reach every home, the pages of corrupt literature will.

The Holy Spirit has often used the written word to change people. John Wesley found the faith he so much longed for while listening to the reading of Luther's commentary on Romans. George Whitefield, who was called the greatest preacher England ever produced, was awakened to his need by reading The Life of God in the Soul of Man by Henry Scougal.

Some of the books we carry are by such men as John Calvin, one of the greatest reformers, and the great Charles H. Spurgeon who, it is said, has more works in print than any other English-speaking author. We have John Bunyan, Jonathan Edwards, and Martyn Lloyd-Jones, who was called the "Last of the Puritans", plus many others. These are just a few examples of Christian statesmen who led revivals and at times changed the direction of nations with their passionate messages.

These books are available for all those who still believe that the truth matters, to those who believe that the blood of the martyrs was not shed in vain, and who feel that the transforming power of real Christianity is largely absent today. These books are for all people who are interested in the practices, sermons, and lives of the great men that God has raised up both in the past and present, and the truths that they taught.

About the Library:
The St. Thomas Evangelical Library came about through the providence of God. It is operated out of the home of John Van Eyk whom God has led to that "faith once delivered to the saints" (Jude 3). It is his desire to make known the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ, God's truth, and His glorious work among His people throughout history.
