Val Chvedovski was born in Ukraine in 1952. He came from a working family, his father was a train engineer and his mother a cook. Val grew up in a rural but popular town of Zhmerinka. He started to sketch and doodle at a young age. Over a span of his childhood and adolescence his hobby to draw evolved into a great passion for painting.
Val graduated from Odessa’s school of fine arts in Ukraine. There he developed his skills painting with oil and watercolor. Most of his works include landscapes and portraiture, although some of the recent pieces are very abstract. Long after graduating, Val earned a living by teaching painting and drafting at a local college.
In 1992, Val and his family left Ukraine and came to Canada, where he settled in Kitchener. Many of his recent paintings were inspired by Canada’s gorgeous countryside. Some of his works are very detailed, while others are painted with thick brushstrokes.
Val also enjoys painting portraits of his friends and co-workers. He was often asked to re-create portraits from old worn out black and white photographs.
Presently, he is a member of Kitchener-Waterloo Society of Artists. His paintings are exhibited in Double T Gallery, Iris Gallery, WaterlooCommunity Art Centre and MacDonald Stewart Art Center. His works have reached Germany, England, Israel and Russia. |
