The following assume you as somewhat familiar with Windows and changing
settings.



Changes within WIN 98
--------------------------------------------
ALLOW MORE ICONS AND LARGER DESKTOP AREA
	{may not work with all monitors}
right-click DESKTOP -> Properties -> Settings
	increase resolution slider
	suggest  1280 X 1024  and  High Color (16bit)


INCREASE FILES THAT WINDOWS USES/REMEMBERS
START -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Performance
		-> File System -> Network Server


SCAN DISK
MY COMPUTER -> right click drive C -> Properties -> Tools ->
	Error checking status -> Advanced
		-> display summary - Only if errors
		-> log file - No log
		-> cross-linked files - Make copies
		-> lost file fragments - Free
		-> check files for
			-> YES invalid file names
			-> No invalid dates and times
			-> No duplicate names
		-> YES check host drive first
		-> NO Report MS-Dos mode name length errors


HIDE TASK BAR
right click on empty area on task bar -> Properties
     -> YES always on top
     -> YES auto hide
     -> YES show small icons
     -> YES show clock
     Apply


MAP TO LOCAL DRIVE (notice you can not do this from network neighorhood)
to set up a drive letter to a local drive use the following
     SUBST P: C:\PROJECTS   (P: = new drive letter   c:\PROJECTS = local directory
this map drive letter P to the projects directory (change as necessary)
use quotes for directory name contains spaces
can use at dos prompt; remains active until windows shutdown
to remove a drive use  SUBST p: /D    (/D option for delete)
can place in AUTOEXEC.BAT to run at each startup
	START -> Run -> MSCONFIG
		Autoexec.bat
			subst M: "c:\my documents"
			subst P: c:\projects
			subst Q: c:\downloads
		OK	





AUTOCAD (R2002) Settings    (there are some changes from R2000)

REMOVE STARTUP LOGO SCREEN OF AUTOCAD
	{add /nologo to end of target box line}
single-right-click Acad icon -> Properties -> Shortcut tab
	-> Target -> .....acad.exe" /nologo
this removes logo screen when slecting acad from desktop
need to also add to DWG file type option
My Computer -> view pulldown -> Folder Options -> File Types tab
	scroll down and select AutoCAD Drawing
	-> EDIT
	in action box select Launch AutoCAD
	-> EDIT
	in perform action box add /nologo to end of line
	   .....\ACAD.EXE" "%1" /nologo
	OK
	CLOSE
	CLOSE


SET UP DESKTOP ICON SO THAT IT STARTS IN JOB DIRECTORY
single-right-click Acad icon -> Properties -> Shortcut tab
	-> Start in -> E:\PROJECTS  {change directory as required}
		(could also use P: if subst command used as noted above)
note: R2002 remembers last used directory if REMEMBERFOLDERS = 1


START ACAD FULL SCREEN
single-right-click Acad icon -> Properties -> Shortcut tab
	-> Run -> Maximized

			Main Dictionary
				-> British English (ize)
			Alternate Font
				->    (remove - leave blank)
				{will prompt when font is missing}

		Automatic Save File Loction
			-> C:\ACADTEMP
			{assumes temporary directory has been created}

		Temporary Drawing File Location
			-> C:\ACADTEMP
			{assumes temporary directory has been created}

		Temporary External Reference File Location
			-> C:\ACADTEMP
			{assumes temporary directory has been created}

		Support File Search Path
			{add} -> C:\Program Files\ACADFONT
			{place all new fonts in new separate directory}
			{makes future updates easier}
