This is my first adventure in my new truck. I had just gotten my new 31" mudders
installed and they were just begging to be tested so I call my friend John
and told him to bring his 2000 TJ Sahara down so we could go out and hit the
trails. I rarely go wheeling without John as his TJ is equipped with a Warn
9000lb winch and it comesin handy especially if there is |

snow on the ground and there was snow on the ground! about 12" of wet gooey slop.
We headed out and decided to play with the winch as we had never really
tried it out other than to pull cars back on the highway in bad weather.
John winched my truck up a short steep incline with no problem at all so we felt
pretty confident that we couldn't get into too much trouble. We regularly
wheel in this area but this was our first time here in the snow. The place that
we wheel is an old gravel pit that is now a testing ground for a logging equipment
manufacturer and let me tell you those Logging Logging Skidders really
tear up the ground! We generally hit the water holes early on and this trip
was no exception. John figure he could drive right through |
TJ free I proceeded into the same hole just to prove that my truck was superior in
every way ....... NO I didn't get stuck either! I then proceeded to try
this same hole from every possible angle and no matter how hard I tried I just
could not get stuck!!. And that's how it went for the rest of the day.
I only had one minor stuck that I got out of without assistance. ! |
Unfortunately for John he was running the stock Wrangler rubber so he not only got
stuck on nearly level ground but he couldn't climb any of the hills unless I
went up first and he followed in my tracks! It was a great day and a few
other trucks showed up to try there luck as well. A full size GMC and a CJ were
around for about 15 minutes but got tired really fast of continually getting stuck!
Later in the day a couple of young guys showed up; one was in an 86
4Runner and the other in a 4wd S-10. The guy in the S-10 couldn't go anywhere
off of the access road without getting stuck but he kept at it for a good hour!
The kid in the Runner was doing reasonably well for a stock truck with a
pathetic set of AT tires. My kids thought it was great seeing Dad drive
the new truck through all sorts of obstacles without a single stuck (that required
assistance) all day |
Ahhh spring time in Paris........Paris Ontario Canada that is!! I had just
gotten the truck back from its trip to the paint shop to deal with a bad case of
body rot and decided to do some wheeling! I grabbed my camera and headed
out with my ever vigilant wheeling buddy John and his TJ. The first course
of action was to get some pics to remember the shiny paint work by.
|
Then it was time to get my fix of wheelin! so we headed for the hills and played
for a few minutes and them we went for the water. We did the main trail
around and up the backside of the hill and then down through the brush to
the water. |
Things were going pretty well until I decided to take the route through the rocks
to get out of the tail end of the water. I got pinned between two rocks
and when I gave it some gas, all I heard was KaPING!!! I broke my passenger
side rear leaf! The top two leaves were broken right at the U bolt!
Luckily I had made it out of the rocks so we parked my Toy
and wheeled for a couple more hours in the TJ until dark. We picked up
the 4Runner and limped home (luckily home is only 5 minutes away) to order new
springs and hope for better luck next time. It was still great to get the
top off and get out on the trails! By the way: |
The Jeep was stopped when we took this pic, it was staged. |
