Grow Your Own

You can grow raspberries. Our hectares (acres) of raspberry canes are planted in rows 2.4 metres (8 feet) apart. The plants in the rows are .6 meters (2 feet) apart. Planting takes place in April. During cultivation the rows are made in small hills, with small valleys in between the rows. Fertilization is done according to a soil analysis. In the late fall, when picking is done, tree leaves are spread over the field as an aid to fertilization. These tree leaves give acid to the soil which raspberry canes like as they grow. Much of the fertilization is in the form of carbonatite. Weeds are easily eradicated by hoeing or spot spraying with Roundup. Your berries are now ready to produce. There will be a few in July, but the majority of the crop is in September and October.
Each year you will get more berries until about year three, when you will have a complete crop. Canes need to be cut down to about 25 centimetres (10 inches) each December.
You can also grow these raspberries in pots on your deck, back yard, greenhouse, etc. With watering, fertilization, etc. berries grow well. Take care of them like you would flowers. Some people with heated greenhouses are able to grow three crops per year..
