Chicago Pete has been playing the blues since 1959. His resume is a virtual who's who in the idiom. He has toured in Europe with JIMMY DAWKINS and played bass for several prominent artists including: JR. PARKER , EARL HOOKER, DENISE LA SALLE, PERCY MAYFIELD, LUTHER ALLISON, TYRONE DAVIS, WILLIE MABON , WILD CHILD BUTLER, LOWELL FULSON , MIGHTY JOE YOUNG, EDDIE BURNS, ALBERT COLLINS, BUDDY GUY, JUNIOR WELLS, AND LAZY LESTER. Described by some as a "southern gentleman" and by others as a "badass bluesman".Chicago Pete is travelling further and further afield performing in Canada, Germany and throughout the United States.
Pete was born in McLemoresville, Tennessee where he was weaned on body wigglin' southern gospel music and where he started singing spirituals at the age of five. As a young man he moved to Chicago and started playing and singing the blues. He developed his own vocal style combining traditional Chicago blues with southern soul. His powerful voice and engaging personality make him an artist who is always in demand.
In the seventies he moved from Chicago to Detroit where he started his own band CHICAGO PETE AND THE DETROITERS. They released a CD , "The Gift", as well as a video in 1984. Seven of the tunes on this CD were recorded in Detroit with some of the finest players from the Detroit Jazz Scene, including a full horn section. These tunes were co-written by his good friend Gery Gaugham. The rest of the CD was recorded in London Ontario with the Old Chicago Blues Band featuring some of Pete's favorite songs including two by his former boss JR. PARKER.
