Nerine of Lyrian: Aunt or foster parent of the sisters Brenna and Morwyn. Unknown to her "nieces", Nerine is a Water Fey, uncountable years old. As one of the Fey, she rarely bothered with humans until she was caught up in one of Graidon's schemes. After unwittingly drinking from a love potion, Nerine and Aleric began a torrid affair that distracted the king while Graiden attacked! With Aleric unable to leave Nerine's side, the defense of the kingdom was left to Balfyr. It was his sorcerer friend, Aneurin that provided a spell that lessened the strength of love potion so that Aleric could leave his lover. Nerine, unable to understand cursed Aleric as he left: "If Aleric should ever again taste salt water he shall forever be hers!" Ironically, three hundred years later, the sorcerer Aneurin placed his daughters in the care of Nerine; thinking Graidon wouldn't search for the girls in the keeping of Aneurin's rival. It was through caring for the two children, while in human form, that taught the Fey the meaning of family and duty. Still, she maintains her curse over Aleric. |
