AGING...THE GIFT OF TIME: USING IT WISELY October 21 & 22, 2010 Conference PresentersRon Corisitne is the Principal for Coristine and Associates Consulting. His firm specializes in Strategic Management services in the not-for-profit sector. Ron’as career has spanned senior management positions in the areas of developmental disabilities, seniors’ services and mental health. Ron has also worked for the Ministry of Community and Social Services. Ron has a Master’s of Public Administration from the University of Western Ontario. He has recently completed a five year project to help with the development of the Ontario Partnership on Aging and Developmental Disabilities (OPADD). Jennie L. Wells, BSc, MSc, MD, FRCPC, FACP, graduated from the University Of Connecticut School Of Medince and completed her internal medicine training at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. After subspecialty residency at the University of Western Ontario, Dr Wells continued on as faculty staff, where she is now Associate Professor of Medicine. Her clinical research interests are Alzheimer Disease and Geriatric Rehabilitation. She is an Associate Researcher with the Lawson Health Research Institute. In addition to being Medical Care Coordinator for Geriatric Rehabilitation at St Joseph’s Health Care – Parkwood Hospital and physician in the Aging Brain and Memory clinic, Dr Wells has been a Mentor for the Ministry of Health’s Alzheimer Strategy, is a consultant at the Windsor Geriatric Assessment Program, and is a member of the Regional Geriatric Program of Southwestern Ontario and Geriatric Assessment Network of Southwestern Ontario. Al Fewster, RN, is a registered nurse with Regional Support Associates whose interests include dual diagnosis, mental health and aging in people with intellectual disabilities. Al has worked in a number of community, hospital, and institutional settings. Wendy & Ian Ness-Jack are family members with a vested interest in the topic of aging and intellectual disabilities. Laurie McAndrew - has been with Community Living London for 29 years and is currently a supervisor working within Accommodations. She has developled a keen interest in supporting people with Down Syndrome and a diagnosis of probable Alzheimer Disease through supervising a home that specialized in those specific supports. Cia Addy is the Long Term Care Service Coordinator with the Alice Saddy Association in London and has worked in the developmental services sector for 25 years. Of this time, she has spent 10 or more years supporting people with Down syndrome who show signs and symptoms of dementia, and often times Alzheimer disease. She has also provided supports to people with intellectual disabilities in the areas of leisure and recreation, seniors community based programs and supported employment programs. Cia has co presented at conferences for Community Living and also provided in-services to health care providers on how to best support people with an intellectual disability, particularly those with Down syndrome. Kathy Peters is a graduate of the Developmental Service Worker (DSW) program from Fanshawe College and has been employed at the Alice Saddy Association in a management position for the past 30 years. Kathy currently oversees: 1) the Service Coordination in Long Term Care Program, 2) the Share Your Home Program, and 3) the Dew Drop Inn program at Alice Saddy. For the past 15 years, she has also been a part time faculty member for the DSW Program of Fanshawe College as both a professor and field placement supervisor. Kathy also continues to pursue an interest in Palliative Care and has achieved her Palliative Care Level 1 certificate. Kerry Boyd, MD, is a Psychiatrist who has worked for over a decade in the field of intellectual disabilities and autism across the lifespan. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University. Dr. Boyd works with the Autism Spectrum Disorder Team at McMaster Children’s Hospital and is Chief Clinical Officer for Bethesda. Bob Carey, PhD, CPsych, obtained his PhD from the University of Western Ontario in 1982, specializing in clinical psychology. He began his career as a psychologist with the Community Service Department of the Oxford Regional Centre and later became the director of the Community Support Team. Bob went into full-time private practice in 1994 and now consults to a wide variety of agencies including: Children’s Aid Societies, Family Counselling Agencies, Clinical Support Teams for Developmentally Handicapped and Dually Diagnosed Individuals, Associations for Community Living, Insurance companies, Lawyers, Vocational Rehabilitation Agencies, and the like. He has taught courses in developmental psychology, social psychology, clinical psychology, and is an adjunct faculty member at UWO. Dr Carey continues to be invited as a speaker at conferences throughout Ontario. He spends a lot of time promoting and teaching his “Positive Systems Approach” in working with challenging individuals. Bob has also performed many Parenting Capacity Assessments over the years and has also spent time in court testifying as an expert witness. Greg Gillis, MD, CCFP, has run a family medical practice in London for 27 years and treats many individuals with intellectual disabilities. He is an adjunct professor in the Medical Department at the University of Western Ontario (UWO); Co-director of the Developmental Disabilities Division at UWO; duty physician at Regional Mental Health Care London. Dr Gillis has also been the Family Medicine Consultant for the Canadian Medical Protective Association and has been involved in the “Developmentally Disabled Care Primary Heal Care Initiative” since 2007. Michael Lewis is the managing director of his own training and development firm, Michael Lewis Training, Motivation and Development, based in London Ontario. After an extensive corporate training background, he formed his own business in 1994 and brings over 24 years of speaking and presentation experience. As a researcher in behavioural motivation, he brings a wealth of both business and interpersonal skills to every presentation. Since early 1995, he has also been an occasional instructor with Fanshawe College and with the University of Western Ontario, on topics of interpersonal communication, organizational development and entrepreneurship/ business development. Michael is a popular and passionate speaker and experienced workshop facilitator who truly enjoys speaking enthusiastically to audiences ranging from 15 to 1500. He focuses in presenting purposely upbeat, informative training presentations, seminars and workshops to a wide range of clients. |
