Here is how our philanthropy program works.

Program Objective:

The objective of our program is to raise funds for medical reasearch. More specifically for improved treatment and ultimately a cure for a little know metabolic disorder known as PKU.

What is PKU:

PKU is the acronym for Phenalalanine Ketone Urea. The basic problem is that those affected cannot produce the necessary enzyme to matabolize phenylalanine, one of the amino acids that make up protein. All foods that contain protein contain phenylalanine. If the phenylalanine is not metabolized it cannot effectively be used as one of the necessary building blocks for the body and it accumulates in the blood stream and causes brain damage which affect both intelectual and motor control functions.

Current Treatment:

Currently treatment is mainly by dietary control. The basis of the diet is a milk formula with controled amounts of phenylalanine and also compounds which cannot be produced by the body. This milk formula costs between $1,000 and $2,000 per patient and many patients do not have medical coverage to pay for this stapple. In addition there are a variety of specialty foods which costseveral times the cost of equivalent normal foods. Limited quantities of regular foods can be consumed. Foods high in protein can never be consumed on a regular PKU diet.

How to Contribute:

You can contribute in any of the following ways:

1) Surplus Equipment Donation:

If you have surplus equipment which you simply want to give away 100% to the cause , you simply contact us and assuming the equipment has a minimum marketable value we will arrange for pick up, shipment to our storage facility from where it will be sold. Once it is sold, a minimal portion is taken to cover the expenses incured in shipping, storage and the buld of the proceeds go directly to the PKU fund.

2) Surplus Equipment Consignment with Partial Donation:

In a usual consignment you retain 70% of the selling price and 30% is retained by our company for the sales efforts and expenses. If desired, you can donate a portion of your 70% to the PKU fund.

3) Art Purchase:

You may purchase one of my limited edition Impressionist Photographs to decorate your place of business, home office or your home. My images are also available as stock photos for a variety of uses from calendars, corporate reports, greating cards, motivational programs, etc.... My images are world class works of art. Your local tax laws may allow you to depreciate art acquisitions. Proceeds from my art sales go 100% to the PKU Fund. You can see some of my work at the following URL:

4) Cash Donation:

If you wish, you can make a cash dontion to the PKU Fund.

How the Funds will be used:

1) To fund research programs to find new treatments for PKU

2) To fund research to find a genetic cure for PKU.

A very effective way to fund by providing scholarships to encourage graduate students to takle this particular problem. The investment is multiplied by the additional funding and infrastructure provided by the universities attended by the particular students.
