Orchestra hits money targets

By DEBORA VAN BRENK, Free Press City Hall Reporter

Orchestra London has leaped over every financial hurdle on its way to solvency and is one deadline away from the finish line.

Every two weeks since the beginning of March, the symphony has had to raise about $60,000 to meet payroll and other operating costs -- and to keep itself out of bankruptcy court.

Board chairperson John St. Croix said fund-raisers have now met next week's deadline and are shooting to reach the final one at the end of May.

That would bring the orchestra the total of $330,000 it needs to stay afloat.

"If we keep going this way, we're going to get it," St. Croix said.

"The community is coming forward for us and we're very happy about that," he said.

By the end of the month, the orchestra must also have completed a three-year operating business plan with balanced budgets each year.
