Settling the score

Though we now live in Grand Bend, we did live in London for 22 years and thoroughly enjoyed the symphony and the theatre. We still drive to London for symphony concerts and we greatly miss the London arts milieu.

All of the years we were paying taxes in London, we never complained about the disproportionately generous tax contributions to the sports scene. We also never attended any of those events. It seems it is about time for the city to recognize the proportionate interest in arts organizations by the citizens and start giving that proportion of tax money to support those organizations. (A bit of "fair play," to use a sports cliche.) And don't forget there are a fair number of people from surrounding communities who drive to London frequently to enjoy the arts scene there. (They probably eat a meal or two, do some shopping, buy gasoline and perhaps spend a night while in the city.)

Please, London, do not sacrifice your well-earned reputation as an arts centre.
