LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Helping Orchestra London

In the article Struggling orchestra clears first cash hurdle (March 22), one item to be considered in restructuring Orchestra London is "a proposed London Arts Council." Really?

When I returned to London from British Columbia, one of my first actions was to join the London Arts Council. I know the value of such an organization for meaningful contacts and in advocacy for the arts. Most important to me is the thoughtful information it provides. The council is a vital part of London's cultural scene.

Orchestra London's lapse in not remembering its own membership highlights one of the council's most important functions -- timely dissemination of information. And, while we're at that task, you should see the exciting spin-off in the way the Covent Garden Market community supports the arts council office.

Together, we all win. Why? Because, in the process, we're taking small but significant steps to a revitalization of the core of our Forest City. I'll do what I can to help Orchestra London in its time of need. I'll continue happily volunteering with the London Arts Council.
