The need to promote community support and assistance has been identified, and we are in need of your help to continue our efforts and remain effective. The four main areas of promotion are:
- Facilitator – On an as needed basis, we run a parent support group where parent volunteers are invited to share their own experiences, either in group or in one–on–one support format. Volunteers are matched with support groups based on needs and experiences; this may affect the frequency of your involvement. As well, the amount of your involvement is dependent on your time and availability. At most, you may volunteer for one session per year.
- Memorial Service – In late November each year, a Memorial Service to remember our children is planned. An organizational committee meets each Autumn to make the necessary arrangements. This committee makes recommendations about theme, music, service content, and program. In the past, there has been minimal meeting time commitment; since much of the planning can occur at your convenience from your home.
- Journey Garden – In Spring 2004, the Journey Garden was planted at the front of the hospital to honour the memory of our children. A dedication and bulb-Planting celebration was held October 2, 2004. This garden is an exciting new addition to promote our presence within our community. Help with its maintenance and ongoing care is needed.
- Fundraising – As our group expands and projects such as the garden and the memorial service continue to grow, there is an ongoing need to financially support the valuable work this group does. We are seeking individuals who are able to spearhead some fundraising initiatives that will continue to support our ongoing efforts.
To get involved in our support services as a volunteer for any of the above areas, please contact Hospice Wellington, (519) 836 – 3921.
