Congratulations! You announced your engagement, now what?
A bride, her fiancé and both families will often spend many weeks or months preparing for the approaching festivities which will accompany the most important day in the lives of two people, their wedding day. Hundreds of hours and a considerable amount of money are expended as arrangements are made with the church, reception facility, florist, photographer, baker, musicians, jewelers, bankers, insurance company, and travel agent. All this time, effort and money is spent to ensure the success of the event which will carry with it memories of the most meaningful, exciting, beautiful, and enjoyable hours of your life.
I know that when we got married we started planning right away, first on our list was; when do we get married and who would be the minister? Next came our reception hall, was it available for that day? Who would be the caterer and what type of meal would we have for about 250 guests?
Then there were the dresses for the bridesmaids and tuxes or in our case new suits for the groomsmen.
And let's not forget the flowers to add that special touch of beauty for both the bridesmaids, groomsmen, parents and the place for the wedding and/or reception. And the list goes on with deserts, cakes, refreshments, wedding favorites and a whole lot more.
Also as soon as possible to may be looking for a professional wedding photographer with whom you will feel comfortable. But shopping for a wedding photographer is not as simple as it may sound. The variety of wedding photography you will see is from very poor to excellent, and the cost factors may range with as much variation.
What to look for in a wedding photographer! Here are some suggestions:
The most important thing we can suggest to you is not to get caught up with numbers, especially if you desire to have your wedding photographed with the dignity and beauty, which you want it to reflect.
The second is just as important; don't just call on the phone to find out the cost of a wedding package. After all would you call all the bridal salons in your area and ask how much they charge for a wedding gown?
If the bridal store told you they had a dress for only $99.00 would you say, sold I want it or would you visit the store first. The same is true of your photographer.
Call the photographer and make an appointment to see his or here style of photography. Is the photographer available for that day or will he be sending someone else, and if so ask to see samples of their work. Remember that price is not always everything. If you plan to hire the photographer for the day, will he/she make you day enjoyable? Does his/her style of photography reflect the joy and excitement of the day? Do they offer both the traditional as well as the candid and photojournalistic style of photograph to add variety, excitement and capture of the special day?
Why not start by booking an engagement session and find out if they really capture your inner beauty. After all the "Engagement Portrait" is very important to us as the photographer, since the engagement portrait help us to get to know you a little better photographically speaking. It will also show us any problems, or perceived problems with make-up, hair, blinking, crooked smiles, or just about any other malady that you might think you suffer from. Usually by looking at these portraits and discussing any problems with you, they can alleviate the problem, in advance of the wedding. So the engagement session is beneficial for both yourself and the photographer.
At our studio and after thirty years of wedding photography we have seen a lot of changes in weddings and the traditions of weddings. These days we have entered the digital world and what exciting times they are. We have gone from taking 150-250 photographs at a wedding to 500 and more. But its more than just capturing extra photographs as with our full day coverage's we now come with two photographers and capture the traditional as well as the candid and photojournalistic part of a wedding. Just to give you a couple of examples; with only one photographer we may be up at the front of the church waiting for the bride and her parents, but in the mean time miss that final kiss of the father and bride in the back. Or if there are children in the wedding party they are always doing things, so while one photographer captures all the traditional photographs, the second is busy capturing the children and young at heart in a more relaxed atmosphere. Get the picture? Yes, we also capture more of the excitement and both the traditional as well as the fun part of the wedding.
Next come the finished albums, I wish could describe the beauty of the new albums imported from the Nederland's and the new albums designed for the digital wedding. But mere words cannot describe the beauty and individuality of the product not any more that the desires you may have for each other as well as the joy you will find in looking back at your wedding albums and photographic memories for years to come.
I look forward to meeting you, but more important I look forward to helping you create your very own memories in photographs from our studio.
