The Hamilton Beach Model B

Once in a while you work on a project that is very special and challenging. This was the case with the HB Model B mixer. Most of my work is on Sunbeam mixers, but the older HB machines present new challenges. While I love the Sunbeams, it’s while working on HB mixers that I really appreciate the quality of workmanship that went into the household items of yesteryear.

HB brought the quality “Home Motor” to American homes, easing household chores by electrifying tedious tasks such as sewing and mixing foods. Early implementations involved adapting the motor, often with pulleys, to various machines such as the sewing treadle. HB motors were designed to last and incorporated sophisticated bearing designs. These features were carried forward into their wonderful food mixers.

This Model B was carefully restored to ensure authenticity and full functionality. Each chrome part has been stripped, polished and replated. A new durable wrinkle finish has been applied to the base just like the original using an old time honoured process. Each self oiling bearing has been dismantled and rewound with new wicks and bushings. Even the faint green tint of the original HB custard paint has been captured based on analyzing many paint samples.

I’ve enjoyed working on this wonderful machine. Phil’s Appliance Science is proud to offer you this rare collectors item.
