Understanding Your PSSP Pay Stub

A District 11 OSSTF Bargaining Unit Resource Pamphlet

Here are are the explanations for the various lines and categories listed on your pay stub. Pay stubs are accessible from the Employee Portal by clicking on "View My Pay History". It is possible to access your pay stub approximately a week prior to the actual pay date as well as your pay stubs for previous pay periods.

 

Pay Date
bulletThe date that the cheque is direct deposited.
Pay Number
bulletThe number of pays received so far in the school year. For example 200510 means the 10th pay in the 2005-2006 school year.
bulletArticle 26 of the PSSP contract lists the pay schedule and describes salary administration.
Id Number
bulletYour personal employee number with the Thames Valley District School Board.
Employee Group
bulletThe bargaining unit to which you belong ("Professional Student Services Personnel").
bulletPay is determined according to the PSSP contract.
Regular Pay
bulletThe earnings for this pay period according to the salary grid in Article 33.
Vacation Pay
bulletVacation pay rates range from 4 - 12 % depending on the number of years with the board as outlined in Article 29 of the PSSP contract.
Retroactive Pay
bulletIf applicable, retroactive pay.
Total Earnings
bulletTotal earnings on this cheque before deductions.
bulletSalary is paid in 26 installments each of which is 1/26 of the annual salary except when a calendar year has 53 Fridays and the 53rd Friday is a pay date. In that case, there will be 27 installments each of which is 1/27 of the annual salary.

Deductions:

Employment Insurance
bullet1.87% of insurable earnings (maximum of $39,000) up to a maximum of $729.30 deducted for the 2006 calendar year. Once that maximum has been reached, no further deductions are made in the calendar year.
bullet 2006 EI Deduction Table
Canada Pension
bullet4.95% of pensionable earnings (maximum of $42,100) up to a maximum $1910.70 deducted for the 2006 calendar year. Once that maximum has been reached, no further deductions are made in the calendar year.
bullet 2006 CPP Deduction Table
Income Tax
bulletDeductions based upon federal and provincial income tax legislation. The amount deducted is based upon annual income and is a combined total of both income taxes. The Ontario income tax amount includes the Ontario health premium.

Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System
bullet OMERS pension deductions are 6.5% on the first $42,100 of salary plus deduction of 9.6% of salary amount over $42,100

Dependent Life Insurance

bulletMandatory coverage of 2.5 x annual salary to a maximum insurance coverage of $200,000
bulletEffective September 1, 2006 75% of premium cost paid by the Employee, 25% paid by Employer*

Health Insurance
bulletSingle or Family coverage
bullet100% of premium cost paid by Board

Long Term Disability

Canada Payroll Savings Deduction

Professional Student Services Personnel Dues
bulletProvincial fees of 1.30% of gross salary (see Bylaw 11.1.1 of the OSSTF Provincial Constitution).
Professional Student Services Personnel Levy
bulletLocal dues of 0.12% of gross salary (see Bylaw 4.1 District 11 Constitution).
Family Support
bulletIf applicable, as required by legislation.
Garnishee
bulletIf applicable, as required by legislation.
Gift Fund
bulletAs determined by employee.
Credit Union
bulletAs determined by employee*
Total Deductions
bulletTotal deductions for this pay period.
Net Deposit
bulletTotal deposit for this pay period (Total Earnings minus Total Deductions).
Annual Salary
bulletYour annual salary as determined by your placement on the grid plus any applicable allowance(s).

* When there are three bi-weekly pays in a single month, deductions will not occur for LTD, Group Life, Optional Group Life, Canada Payroll Savings, Credit Union, etc on the third pay cheque of the month.

bulletBOARD SHARE: Amount Board has paid for benefits on this pay cheque.
