2006 E.C. McTavish Award Nomination Package

The 2006 E.C. McTavish Award Nomination Package includes a Fact Sheet about this award, a Nomination Form, an Award Recipient Information Form, and a Sample Script. The selection process is described below. Each E.C. McTavish Award recipient and guest(s) will be invited to attend the awards reception dinner that will take place on April 27, 2006 at Sir George Ross Secondary School.

There are several tasks to be done which must be completed and submitted as indicated so that the whole process works smoothly. Once the recipient of the E.C. McTavish Award is selected, a script needs to be written and digital photos of the recipient must be taken. There are certificates to be printed, and the Powerpoint presentation to be created. Preparing all of these takes time, and therefore, it is critical that time-lines be adhered to.

Procedure/Tasks to be done:

_____Make the E.C. McTavish Fact Sheets and Nomination Forms available to the staff and student body in order to solicit nominations of suitable graduating students from them.

_____Convene a meeting of the Selection Committee, consisting of the Branch President (or designate), the Awards Rep (if your Branch has one), and at least one other teacher. This committee will interview each potential winner and select ONE student, who best exemplifies the criteria of this award, to be the recipient of the E.C. McTavish Award.

______Fill in and submit the "Award Recipient Form" to the District Office by Monday March 27, 2006 so that the invitations can be sent to the recipient and the Principal.

Script and Digital Photos:

______Using the information on the "Nomination Form(s)" and the Sample Script provided as a model, write a script about the recipient of this award. The script must be typed in paragraph form, signed by the recipient to acknowledge that all information is accurate and may be read out loud, and submitted with the digital photos to Nancy McDougall at the District Office by Monday April 10, 2006.

______Take a minimum of 10-12 digital photographs of the recipient to illustrate the sorts of things described in the script. At least one of the photographs must be take of the student with the school sign or something to indicate the school. Submit these with the script to Nancy McDougall at the District Office by Monday April 10, 2006.

______PLEASE NOTE: This year digital photos will be used to prepare a power-point presentation for the awards evening. If it is not possible to take digital photos, then regular photos (not  slides) may be sent to Nancy McDougall at District Office through the Board’s courier (OSSTF Office c/o Clarke RD SS).
