Extra Information From Quiz Committee: As an
incentive, Massey-Harris contributed capital for expansion by buying shares
in Bain Wagon Co. The large, empty, well-appointed premises into which the
Bains moved in 1896 had already been bought by Massey-Harris from a
then-defunct maker of farm ploughs, Patterson Bros. Co.
The Bain Wagon Company Ltd. was given a contract at the start of the Boer War (1899) to
make ambulance and transport wagons. The Massey-Harris Co. persuaded the
brothers John A. and George Bain to affiliate with them in the manufacture
of wagons and to relocate Bain Wagon Co. from Brantford to Woodstock.
