Named The Woodstock Biscuit & Confectionery Works when founded in 1886, this wholesale biscuit and candy manufacturer was later renamed Bean & Westlake after Mr C.G. Bean joined the business in 1888.

Extra Information from Quiz Committee:
Located on Dundas, it expanded to occupy address range 374-378 (in the now empty spot opposite the Capital Cinema) with three floors of manufacturing, packing, shipping and office areas by the time the business closed soon after 1928.

Our Society’s Honorary President, Ed Bennett, remembers walking past the biscuit factory on the way home from school with friends and savouring the enticing baking odours. From time to time a friendly employee would give each of them a sample of Ed’s favourite treat – a crisp cookie with raisins pressed into it.
