The London and District Science and Technology Fair was started in 1970 by the Optimist Club of Southeast London and the fair now has grown to be a large, well organized, incorporated entity. It continues to hold a science fair each year in London for students in London and the surrounding area. Most of the participants come to the fair through their own school program. Students participating range from grade 6 through O.A.C. in various grade and subject groupings. Each year several students receive in addition to local awards, a chance to go to the annual Canada Wide Fair. The fair was held in Regina (1997), Timmins (1998), Edmonton (1999) and in the year 2000, in London.
The total budget for Science 2000 was over $ 500,000 with the groups being responsible for about half of that amount. Numerous businesses and Optimist Clubs in London committed funds to Science 2000.
