NEXT COURSE NOV/06 ON THE MAITLAND RIVER

We will increase your success!!

Here in Ontario we are blessed with great river and streams to Float fish for Salmon, Steelhead and Brown Trout. One of the most effective ways to catch these great species is using the float fishing technique. It has become the most popular way to fish in Ontario. You know what it's like pulling into the parking lot at Thornbury and saying to your buddies, "does anyone work" it being a Tuesday and you thought it would be quite! Ya right.

We are on our 5th year with the Fly Shop and we get a respectable amount of Float Fisherman in our store. This fall we decided to dedicate a site specifically towards the Float Fisherman. We have a mail order business so this will apply with the new site. We will ship across Canada and into the USA.

Please be patient as we will be working on the site continuously bringing you new products and pricing as well as tips and techniques. You may be wondering why a Fly Shop is dealing with Float Fishing. I'm an avid float fisherman as well as being a fly fisherman. There are many days when I'm undecided to bring the float rod or the fly rod. We are going to offer our guiding services for the float fisherman that wants to get a head start. We have experienced guides and being a Fly Shop we have an endless supply of great proven Steelhead and Salmon patterns, give us a try you won't be disappointed!

I gave a good customer some tips and he commented on how well they helped, so I thought we would share a few of them.

  1. Always hold back on your float slightly, this will present your bait/fly into the strike zone first which will increase more hook-ups. It also keeps a good tight presentation

  2. When setting up your float place a couple of large shot directly underneath your float. This is referred to as cocking your float. You do not want your float sitting up high in the water. A slight hit from a fish will be noticed.

  3. ALWAYS USE THE SMALLEST FLOAT AS POSSIBLE!!!

I Hope this might help someone who is just getting started!!!!
