The members of the Hot Latkes Klezmer Band bring their favorite music
to the Orchestra London stage in a full-length programme as
Eine Kleine Klezmermuzik goes Pops!
Klezmer music is music from the heart. The word "Klezmer" comes from the Hebrew kli-zemer "vessel of song." The music is infused with soulful melodies and infectious dance rhythms which have become very popular world-wide in the last twenty years. Historically old-world Klezmer music has left its mark on classical music, and on the development of North American popular music. Now old and new come together again!

About the band: (back)

The Hot Latkes Klezmer Band is composed of well-seasoned musicians from folk, jazz and classical backgrounds who are united by a common fascination with traditional Jewish music and dance. The Latkes perform music from Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Middle East and the North American melting pot with a traditional yet fresh approach. Latkes are a festive treat: sizzling potato pancakes smothered with apple sauce and sour cream. These Latkes will appeal to a variety of musical tastes and they are guaranteed non-fattening!

The Latkes have performed at the Home County Folk Festival, Peterborough Folk Festival, Sunfest '95, '96, Canfest, the; the Vivace Concert series, Farmington Hills, Michigan, the Windsor Jewish Community Center, and the Canadian Hadassah-Wizo National Convention in Toronto,1996. They have presented numerous family and educational shows for public libraries, schools, and Jewish organizations.
In the spring of 1997 the Latkes presented a unique programme "Psalms and Dances" in collaboration with the London Pro Musica Choir. They played a concert to a capacity crowd in Mel Lastman Square this past summer as part of the City of Toronto Summer Serenades Series. In October they presented a special concert in honour of the Israel 50th Anniversary at Assumption University in Windsor. This summer the Hot Latkes released a new CD, Eine Kleine Klezmermusik that has received considerable play on CBC Radio One and Two.

The Hot Latkes were guests on the 1994 Orchestra London Holiday Pops, and performed a set of Cushion Concerts for the Orchestra two years later. It is a special treat for the members of the band to bring their favorite music to the Orchestra London stage in a full-length programme as Eine Kleine Klezmermuzik goes Pops!
