Metal
Shapes Manufacturing
Company
Profile and Background
Metal
Shapes was first incorporated in 1957 in Woodstock, Ontario as
a Custom Slitting House. Early in the 1960’s roll forming
was introduced to complement the existing slitting operation.
Today the company’s facilities include over 150,000 sq. ft of
plant space on over 20 acres of industrial land.
The
plant includes 17 roll forming lines ranging from 6 to 20 forming passes with shaft diameters ranging from
1” to 4”, this assures that we always have the right size
machine to form the customers desired section, in the most
efficient and economical manner possible. All lines feature
Ams XL series microprocessor controlled cut to length and
prenotch systems. This allows for very accurate and consistent
hole patterns to be prenotched in the flat steel prior to
forming on the rolling mill. This offers great advantages in
accuracy and cost reduction when compared to conventional
drilling or punching after forming of the shape. Some lines
incorporate 2 separate prenotch presses up to 200 tons to
produce complex or large hole patterns with ease.
Materials
processed range from .015 to .250 inches thick and up to 25”
of developed width. Part lengths up to 60 feet have been
produced, both ferrous and Non-ferrous metals are formed with
ease. Pre-painted, Vinyl coated, and high yield materials have
all been successfully prenotched and formed.
Punch
presses up to 400 tons with bolster plates of up to
18”x144” are also used where pre-notching is not a viable
alternative. There is also a complete machine shop with CNC
Lathe and Mills equipped to
manufacture and maintain tooling located in house, ensuring
short lead-time for new sections.
Metal
Shapes has a complete line of proprietary tooling to produce
sections for the Transport Trailer, Greenhouse, Fencing,
Dunnage, Warehouse Racking, Cable Tray, Window and Doors and
Farm Implement Industries. A complete selection of C-channels,
U-channels and angles are also available. Tooling for 800
different sections is in stock.
Quantities
range from several thousand to several million feet per order.
Metal shapes engineers are always ready to assist the customer
in deciding if a part qualifies for roll forming as well as
optimizing product design for the most economical production
of any desired part. With the large amount of tooling on hand
start up tooling costs are minimized or often completely
eliminated depending on the complexity of the shape.
