Descendants of William JOHNSTONE

Notes

37. Elmer Edward JOHNSTONE

Elmer was the second oldest son of Robert Johnstone and his second wife Mary
Ann Seens. During Elmers years as a young man he spent considerable time
visiting his Grandmother Jane Johnstone who lived at R.R.1 Vittoria the family
farm being quite close to Fishers Glen Ont. He must have known most of the
young people in the area who were about the same age as him, as he married
Mildred May Oakes, Her family lived just about two or three miles from Elmers
Grandmothers farm, it is known that the cousins used to race their horse and
buggies with the other young men of the area, so it would be very likely Elmer
would have been into this exercise with the rest of the young people.
Elmer and Millie were married in the year 1916 this was during the second world
war and he was too young to be in the army he was only about seventeen years
old at that time. After they were married they went to live in the Manitoba
where the two oldest of their children were born. The third one was born at
Oliver B.C.

53. Ross David JOHNSTONE

Ross was in the 27th Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Forces, from Winnipeg
Manitoba. He was found in some military records that a friend of Roy Johnstone
was looking at. Ross was asked to leave home after David Married his second
wife Rosa Cratt. Windsor always said Ross being near the same age as Rosa was
very rude to her. After Ross left home he went to work on the Lake Boats and we
believe that this is where he met his first wife, who was from Detroit, Mich.
Ross and his first wife who's name was Jennie Keith Ritchie separated
shortly after the birth of their son Richard, who was raised by his mother.Ross
then wandered around the country quite a bit and during his wandering he met
and married Aleita Walters, it was said that Aleita had never worn shoes before
she married Ross. She was from the Ozark mountains in the U.S.A.
Many years later Ross hunted up Windsor and family in Ontario. At this time
Ross and Aleita were living in Wabash Ind. They were care takers for a school
in Wabash, They had a son David who at this time was about 16yrs of age. David
later joined the United States Navy and married, I Don't know0 who he married
at this time but, it seems the marriage did'nt last and the last we heard of
David he was married again and was living somewhere in the western United
States
