Year in Review
Hi to my
Customers/Fishing friends,
Another season
has come to a close. I am sending you this letter to let you know my plans for next
season. As usual, we will be fishing seven days a week.
PERCH AND WALLEYE FROM
We had slow start
to the season. I had some boat issues that had to be repaired before we could
start the season. I would like to thank the understanding customers that had
their day cancelled. We finally got into the water in late June. This season we
plan to start in mid May. When we finally started, the walleye fishing was very
good. It stayed very strong with 2 ˝ to 3 ˝ lb. fish until we moved.
Perch fishing was
very good before we got in the water. After we got in, it became spotty to fair
with a few good days. We suggest not fishing perch after the third week of
June. I will advise you if it would be possible to fish perch after the third
week of June. As for walleye, I expect an excellent year. One that was like
what it was in the 80’s. The fish should be 3-4 lbs and with weather
permitting, should be very abundant.
WALLEYE AND STEELHEAD FROM ERIEAU
When we got to
Erieau the fishing was fantastic. The first day we boated a 10 lb. 5 oz.
walleye along with many other fish. From that time on, weather permitting, the
fishing was fantastic. Some days were heavy on walleye and some heavy with
steelhead. Later when the lake set up we took a very good mix of both fish. We
had walleye to 10 lb. 7 oz. steelhead to 14 lb. 2 oz. and a chinook at 18 lbs.
This season should be one of the best in many years with many large (4-5 lb.)
walleye and many (4-14lb.) steelhead. If weather permits it should be a banner year
for
MUSKIES FROM COVE
Last season the muskies (for the most
part) were the most active I have seen in many years. Big fish clearing the
water 2 and 3 times during a fight, (40-45” fish that thought they were 50”). I
think it was partly because of the die off last season. The fish were very
healthy. Our numbers last season were slightly better then the season before
with an average of 6 fish per trip. I had some very good days but also had a
few that I only took one fish. As much as you I don’t like these days… they
happen.
We had a number of fish 49” and over. The
longest was 53” and 34 lb. 5 oz. and the heaviest was 50” and 38lb. 8 oz. On a
plus note, the weather was fair with some very warm days in October. Next
season I don’t see much change if the weather stays settled. Our numbers might
increase slightly again to 7 fish per trip.
On a real plus side TWO RODS PER PERSON
has passed.
Pricing
We have elected again this coming season
not to increase our rates. With the exception of my American friends, which
will be adjusted for currency difference only? Now the other shoe drops. The
pricing will remain the same unless fuel costs reach $1.15 per liter at the
fuel dock. If this happens, charters will INCREASE $50.00 PER CHARTER. Last
season I did not have to include the surcharge. If what they say on the news is
true, it could happen this season. If on the remote chance, what they are
predicting comes true, we are going to include another fuel charge of $25.00 if
gas goes to $1.35 per liter at the fuel dock.
A $200.00 deposit will apply to ALL
CHARTERS next season. If you have multiple charters booked, one deposit can
roll through until your last charter, and can be deducted then. I will need
your deposit by the end of February. This will confirm your dates. Please let
me know as early as possible if you can’t make your date. If your deposit is
not in by the end of February you will be reminded once then the date(s) will
be rebooked.
Please ensure that your people have a
valid Canadian fishing license ON THEIR PERSON for the charter. One day
licenses are available near the dock.
If you are coming from any distance, and
are going to spend a night, we have a discount agreement with the Comfort Inn
in both
